How It Works
The calculator adds up the marks you obtained and the maximum marks across every subject you enter, then works out:
Overall % = (Total Obtained ÷ Total Maximum) × 100
Average Marks = Total Obtained ÷ Number of Subjects
Example
Mathematics 82/100, Science 76/100 and English 88/100 give a total of 246 out of 300, an overall percentage of 82%, and an average of 82 marks per subject.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can subjects have different maximum marks?
- Yes — each subject row has its own maximum marks field, so you can mix subjects out of 100, 50, or any other total.
- What's the difference between overall percentage and average marks?
- Overall percentage accounts for differing maximum marks across subjects, while average marks is a simple mean of the marks obtained — useful only when subjects share the same maximum.
- How many subjects can I add?
- There's no fixed limit — use the '+ Add Subject' button to add as many subjects as you need for your report card or mark sheet.
- What happens if I leave a subject's maximum marks blank?
- The calculator will flag it as invalid, since it needs a maximum marks value greater than 0 to calculate a percentage for that subject.
