Percentage Calculator

Enter your obtained marks and total marks to find your percentage instantly — used for test scores, exam results and report cards.

How It Works

Percentage tells you what share of the total marks you scored, expressed out of 100. We divide the marks you obtained by the total marks available, then multiply by 100:
Percentage = (Obtained Marks ÷ Total Marks) × 100

Example

If you scored 450 marks out of a total of 500, your percentage is (450 ÷ 500) × 100 = 90%.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate percentage from marks?
Divide the marks you obtained by the total possible marks, then multiply the result by 100. For example, 72 out of 80 is (72 ÷ 80) × 100 = 90%.
Can obtained marks be higher than total marks?
No. Obtained marks can never be greater than total marks, since total marks represent the maximum score possible. The calculator will flag this as invalid.
How do I calculate percentage across multiple subjects?
Add up the marks obtained in every subject and divide by the sum of all total marks, then multiply by 100. Our Marks Calculator does this automatically for multiple subjects.
What is a good percentage in school or college?
This depends entirely on your institution's grading scale and the difficulty of the exam, so there is no universal answer — check your school or college's guidelines.
